about

Jon Appleton was born in Hollywood, California in 1939. His first electroacoustic music was composed in 1963. Much of his work is a reflection on the cultural soundscapes of the USA, France, Sweden, Japan, Russia and other nations where he has lived and worked.

His association with French composers has had an observable influence on his work, particularly Jean-Claude Risset, Francois Bayle, Michel Redolfi, Beatriz Ferreyra, Georges Boeuf, and Christian Clozier and Françoise Barrière. Also heard in his work is the influence of Swedish composer Lars-Gunnar Bodin, Russian composers Andrei Smirnov and Yuri Spitsyn, and Japanese composer Kojiro Umezaki. Appleton lives at the Hart-Nor Farm in Vermont (USA).
